Arbeitskreis Stadtgeschichte e.V. (the study group)
Since 1983 the non-profit association Arbeitskreis Stadtgeschichte e.V. (study group for city history) has undertaken research into the origins of Salzgitter under National Socialism, as well as various themes relating to the immediate post-war period. With over 100 members and a full-time resident historian, our association has established itself in Salzgitter as an important port of call for those with an interest in this subject, as well as for the victims of National Socialism and their relatives. Another of our objectives is to preserve historical evidence, to remember and to contribute to a candid and lively debate upon this dark chapter of history.
The Arbeitskreis officially took charge of running the Drütte concentration camp memorial site in 1992. Besides offering a wide range of educational programmes and staging public events, one of our most crucial duties is to maintain contact with former concentration camp inmates and slave labourers.
