Salzgitter concentration camp

Salzgitter satellite camp was built in autumn 1944 on the edge of the Südholz woods in the municipality of Salzgitter(-Bad). It was a subsidiary of the main camp in Neuengamme. It was here that the SS brought together about 500 women of various European nationalities drawn from the women’s concentration camp in Ravensbrück and from Bergen-Belsen. Most of them were put to work producing grenades in the “AG für Bergbau- und Hüttenbedarf” and in the “Kleineisen” plant.
